ONE WEEK AS A YOUTH TEAM MEMBER

We talk a whole lot about empowering youth to become the next generation of community leaders, but what exactly does that mean? There are many different ways our youth team engages with our community, plans the all-nighter, and assists at events — let’s break down this past week in the life of the Youth for Change youth team.

OCTOBER 22: WESTFIELD TECHNICAL ACADEMY OPEN HOUSE

Youth Team member Josh Escarpita helped us out Thursday night at our Youth for Change table at Open House! As families would come up to the table, he’d talk about his experience with our organization, the charity all-nighter coming up in March, and encourage them to get involved. His work alongside Steering Committee members Kelly Gonthier and Cindy Monti made the night a great success!

OCTOBER 25: DUNKIN’ STAND-OUT

After a successful comedy show the night before, the team spent some time at Dunkin’ to ask for donations to support our charity all-nighter. We’ve given the youth team a goal to raise $1,500 for a special offering at our event, so keep an eye out for more standouts in the coming weeks! As people stopped by, it was a good opportunity to share our work and spread the word.

October 28: Youth Team Meeting

On Wednesday, our whole team came together for their bi-weekly meeting. This week, they selected a winner for our Lottery Ticket Drawing, set a meeting schedule for the upcoming months, ate a whole lotta candy, and planned another standout to work towards their fundraising goal. Who said work can’t be fun?

October 29: Volunteer of the Year Ceremony

Youth Team members Catherine O’Sullivan and Kenzie St. Peter joined us on Thursday night to celebrate Lisa Stawasz, a longtime YFC volunteer, for her nomination as Westfield’s Volunteer of the Year. It was a nice evening spent with members of the youth team, Steering Committee, and fundraising team to appreciate Lisa’s efforts.

And that’s not all…

This is just some of what our youth team does. Sometimes it’s a lot of event-planning, media appearances, or engaging with our charity recipients. Other times, it’s helping at fundraising events, presenting to our Board, or celebrating everyone’s achievements.

We sure like to have fun and turn the youth’s energy into something that matters.
